Faux pas directed by: the Poprad Airport Nobody to welcome Wizzair plane at the airport!
Sunday, shortly after 6 p. m. - Airbus A320 of Wizzair airlines with its first passangers of a new regular flight line from London to Poprad on board lands at the Poprad Airport. With no glory, though.
Pilots always see the launch of a new regular flight line as a great event. The pilot and the whole crew of Wizzair Airbus A320 must have been pretty surprised after arriving at the Poprad Airport. There has been no official welcome. (Wizzair had scheduled their arrival 10 minutes prior to the regular time, possibly due to the anticipated welcome ceremony – author’s note)
No water arch salute, which is a common ceremony on the occasion of launching new flight lines all around the world, has been held. There was nobody to welcome the first passengers of the new flight line at the airport.
Passengers embarrassed
Even the spotters, searching for such events in order to take pictures of the water arch, have been pretty surprised. One of them travelled from London to Poprad by this particular line only in hope to see two cannons shooting water over the aircraft. „I am disappointed because there’s nothing happening here. No water arch, nothing. When I asked the crew what is the reason, they replied the ceremony is going to be held on Tuesday. It is a deep disappointment to me. I travelled by this particular plane just to see the ceremony happen and I might not be the only one,“ Jaroslav, a disappointed spotter, said.
Connection with the city missing
Upon arrival, passengers started gathering in front of the arrival hall. Those luckier ones, such as a gentleman from Prešov, who took the advantage of cheap air tickets and arrived in Poprad with his daughter, had arranged their transport in advance: „Air tickets to Poprad were much cheaper than those to Košice, so we decided to come here. After all, it takes only a while to get to Prešov by highway.“
Other passengers were transported by taxis, since taxi drivers were probably the only ones aware of the need to get the passengers not only from London to the Poprad Airport, but also from the airport to their further destinations.
Press conference to be held on Tuesday
Although Wizzair had announced the first flight, scheduled for Sunday 26 October 2014, in summer, the press conference, related to the new flight line between London and Poprad, has been announced for Tuesday 28 October. The reason remains obscure.
